Touch rugby began in the traditional areas of the game as a way of keeping players very fit, without risk of injury.  The Diani Beach format is slightly different being only 5-a-side and played on sand, and having to make way for the tides which, (together with time) wait for no man. No matter, between tides it is possible to play for at least 4 hours and after the sea has come in and gone out again it leaves the sand clean, pristine and smooth on which to resume play.

Beach Touch Rugby in the way it is played here is fun, it’s quick (only 7 minutes a side), and young and veteran sides can play, men and women or any combination of the above. Disparate skills and abilities are evened out with the number of points awarded for a try.

The weekend is not only about rugby, there are lots of other things to do in Diani. At The Forty Thieves Beach Bar and Restaurant there is good food and well stocked bars, essential for rugby players of course. The Disco runs all night and there is live music on Sunday. Fine dining is possible at the nearby Ali Barbour’s Cave Restaurant, a stunning venue in three elements of a limestone cave, a must if you have not been there before. Also available around this beautiful Indian Ocean paradise are diving, snorkelling, fishing, and many other water-sports.
