The KCB S&L Mortgage Rally comes to Diani Beach this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. The cars will be flagged off at the UKUNDA KCB branch and thereafter proceed to the special spectator stage at the Ukunda Airstrip. This is usually the most thrilling bit of the rally with cars doing high speed maneuvers. The spectator stage will be held on the 7th of July at 3.30pm and the 8th of July at 1.30 pm.

The 2nd stage will see the cars hit the dirt roads to Shimba Hills and past all the way to Ndeveya, with excellent view points at Mwapala, Mvuleni and Mwaluvanga along the way. The 3rd stage will be from Mwakachanda to Mwangulu via Kikoneni, Vitsangalaweni and Mwananyamala. Stage 4 &5 will see the cars complete the loop via Kinango and will finish at Leisure Lodge Resort in Diani.

INTERNATIONAL DIANI BEACH TOUCH RUGBY
6th, 7th, 8th July 2012 – FORTY THIEVES BEACH BAR – Diani

For the 4th year running, the Annual Diani Beach Touch Rugby Tournament will take place 6th, 7th, 8th July 2012, At Forty Thieves Beach Bar, Diani.

The tournament is recognized both nationally and internationally, attracting teams from Kenya and Overseas. Last year we had 20 teams competing and thanks to the success of the past tournaments, we have decided to expand to 28 teams this year with International teams coming from the UK, Swaziland and Tanzania as well as some of Kenya’s best teams from Nairobi, Naivasha, Mombasa, Nanyuki and Diani.

Tournament schedule
Friday 6th July:
– 6pm Captain Brief
– 8pm Tournament’s Kick off for 16 matches – night games
– 10:45pm end of games
– 10:45pm Concert – Rock with a Reason -> 3 Danish artists

Saturday 7th July:
– 8am Games start (68 games in the day)
– 2:45pm end Games for the day
– 6pm “Boat Race”
– 7pm Auction towards the Age Grade Program
– 8pm Concert – Rock with a Reason -> 3 Danish artists

Sunday 8th July
– 8am Games start for 35 final games
– 10:20am Quarter finals
– 11:20am Semi Finals
– 1pm Shield Final
– 1:20pm Bowl Final
– 1:40pm Plate final
– 2pm Main Final
– 2:30pm Trophy ceremony

The first Touch Rugby Tournament was played in 2009 in Diani, there are now 4 other tournaments in Kenya; Touch Rugby is fast becoming a very popular sport in Kenya.

Beach touch rugby in the way it is played here is fun, it’s quick (only 7 minutes a side), and young and veteran sides can play, men and women or any combination of the above. Disparate skills and abilities are evened out with the number of points awarded for a try.

The tournament is also the occasion to support the Age Grade Program initiated by the Rugby Patrons Society, under the Direction of the Kenya Rugby Football Union. The programme targets school children in the 9-16 year old age group and its purpose is to nurture both boys and girls by developing their rugby skills and identifying talent at an early age.

With the support of the players, the spectators and auction on Saturdays evening,
KES 250,000/= was raised in 2011 and 100,000/= in 2010.
This year again we have the Auction set on Saturday 7th July evening at Forty Thieves Beach Bar.

Friday and Saturday nights will feature 3 Danes artists performing at Forty Thieves (LOUISE HØEGH, BENJAMIN AGGERBAEK and PALLE KLOK), two nights of Blues, Rock and Jazz concert.
