155 Km North of Diani Beach lies the coastal haven of Malindi. If you have been to Malindi for the first time,
you will instantly become aware of the strong Italian influence on Malindi. Malindi boasts a long coastline
that provides a panoramic view of the sea and the setting sun.You can thttp://dianilife.comake a day trip with us to Malindi to explore the fantastic sites around Malindi. One of the most
important ones is GEDE. This was a 13th Century city that was mysteriously deserted and still has some
magnifence left many centuries later. The people of this town were Muslims as can be seen from the
mosques in the 45acre city and were traders. The city seems to have escaped the arab and Portuguese historians as it was not of much importance
along the coast. Stilll Gede has been a source of rich archelogical history with porcelain from
China, Indian lamps and Vietnamese beads among items excavated. Walk throught the ancient city’s
doorways and gates and look out of windows of those walls that are still standing so many years to date. There is also a museum run by the Kenya National Museums where you will see lots of items and artifacts
from another century. Our day trip to Malindi will also see us taking a detour to Watamu beach whereanother fabulous beach. Malindi Marine park is also a must visit and swim due to the abudance of WhaleSharks and Dolphins. Whale Sharks are massive sharks (totally harmless) that are so so rare.Hells Kitchen is the other well celebrated site, situated just above 30 kilometers from Malindi. The siteconsists a spectacular canyon formed as a result of iron mining and water erosion. Other attractionsone can visit include the Portuguese chapel, Vasco Da Gama’s pillar; all more than 500 years old.Take a one day tour of Malindi with Dianilife and discover a place with a rich history, culture andas expected lots of sun.
