    EYE GO GAME SPOTTING 2010 (EGGS) at The LUMO Community Wildlife Sanctuary

    Brilliantly Social & Entertaining Long Weekend in the Bush – October 20th – 24th 2010

    In Brief:
    A 30-hour window in which to compete on as many game drives as desired in the Tsavo bush with continous bar and food provided. Kiddy activities (wild walks with the guides, face painting …), adult activities (a bar & DJ…) are all available all by the same crazy-cat organisers as Diani Rules! Restricted to 50 vehicle entrants.

    Where Is It?

    LUMO Community Wildlife Sanctuary, Maramba ranch, Lualenyi ranch and the Taita hills Sanctuary. We ask you to participate in this unique event and be amongst the first to appreciate what sacrifices the community has made in order to conserve such an important part of our national heritage.

    How EGGS will work:
    A checklist of animals, birds, trees, prints and turds found within the sanctuary will be given to the teams and they will have 30 hours from dawn Friday to noon Saturday, to find and photographically record as many items on the list as possible. The more difficult the challenge, the greater its value. For example a Leopard is worth 100 points, a lion 70 and a Kongoni is 5.

    Who Would Enjoy this Weekend??
    Anyone looking for something fun, social, adventurous and different to do over a long weekend. Competitors and their friends, fan clubs etc are invited to stay in Lumo and enjoy one of Kenya’s least know game sanctuaries.

    Kids can enjoy:
    • An unforgettable ½ term on safari with their family and friends.
    • Spend valuable family time in the bush as a family.
    • Loads of entertainment for the children (splashing in the kiddy pool, face painting, kids game walks, a
    treasure hunt etc.)
    • Chilrden’s meals served all day.

    How To Get There?
    To drive:
    • 50km along the road opposite the turning for Voi town.
    • Under 5 hours drive from Nairobi.

    • 3 hours from Arusha and 4 hours from Mombasa.
    •Self-fly to Taita hills airstrip. Longitude 38.14/east. Latitude 03.30/south degrees.
    •Daily scheduled flight to Voi airstrip (1 hours drive from LUMO) with Safarilink.

    Programme:

    Wed 20th Oct As today is a public holiday, we anticipate competitors and their friends will arrive today. Thurs 21st Oct You can familiarize yourselves with the sanctuary and do the ‘official’ side of entering the competition.
    Fri 22nd Oct
    Get ready to start the competition at dawn, and continue through the day and night if you like.
    Sat 23rd Oct
    The competition will finish at noon.
    A curry lunch will be served while officials record the data.
    This will be followed by prize giving, (prizes will be awarded in various categories such as most
    points accumulated, veterans’ prize, youngsters, ladies, and the team that raised the most funds for
    the community etc.) plus a grand raffle draw.
    A disco in the evening.
    Sun 24th Oct
    We invite all competitors to stay for free.
    Nourishment!! From Wednesday to Sunday evening:
    There will be an all day snack bar.
    There will be a restaurant that will provide 3 meals a day from Wednesday until Sunday evening (Kshs 500 per meal).
    Plus an all day and lots of the night (low-low bush prices) bar.
    A DJ on the Friday night.

    Sponsorship:
    Teams will be invited to enter a car with any amount of entrants at a minimum fee of Ksh 35,000/= per vehicle.
    The teams will be encouraged to raise extra funds through sponsorship from friends and corporations. The highest
    sponsorship for one vehicle will win a prize. This sponsorship will include (from Wednesday to Sunday):
    • All entry items (T shirts etc.)
    • Your camping fees.
    • Conservation fees.
    • Toilets, warm showers, kuni.
    • 2 ltr per entrant drinking water.
    • Security.

    Raising Money For Who?
    Eye Go Game Spotting (EGGS) is a fun way to raise awareness and funds to support the LUMO Taita community. While learning about the rich diversity of flora and fauna of the area, entrants will be putting something back into a community that can ill-afford to give up sparse grazing, yet has done so, to the national benefit.

    Accommodation
    • Comfy Camping:
    o EGGS campsite:
    § With hot running water, loos and basins provided.
    § You can bring your own tents or
    § You can hire Tarpo tents (Tent hire rates will be provided on request).
    § Community rangers, Taita sanctuary rangers, KWS rangers and administration police will be in camp and within the sanctuary throughout this period.
    o Cheetah Private campsite – with water, loos and kitchen space is available should a group request it at Ksh 10,000 per day. The site can cater for six tents.

    Lodge / Hotel Accommodation:

    o If you’re not a happy camper, we can accommodate you in Lion’s Bluff lodge or Taita Hills Lodge.
    § Lions Bluff Lodge – The lodge has twelve rooms and will be open as usual during the
    competition. Accommodation will be Kshs 7,000/= full board, you can eat in camp if you
    prefer. Bookings will be received on a first come first served basis.
    § Taita hills lodge – Rooms available at a special rate during the whole of the half term period.
    You may wish to mix time in camp with time in the hotel.

    Friends & Fan Clubs:

    We would be delighted to host anyone not interested in taking part in EGGS, herewith the costs for them:
    • Sanctuary fees – payable on entry per day.
    o non residents USD 30
    o residents Kshs 600
    o citizens Kshs 200
    o vehicles Kshs 500
    Camping fees:
    o Kshs 500 per adult per night,
    o Kshs 250 per child per night

    Shops
    Companies may wish to set up stalls, rent will be Kshs 1,000 per day plus we would hope you will donate a
    percentage of take.

    Entries close 15th October 2010 – By this date entry fees must have been deposited into the account
    provided.

    HOW TO PLAY

    * In one vehicle minimum 2, max 7 people.
    * People cannot change to other teams once the event starts.
    * Every entry has 30 hours to spot as many animals etc as possible.
    * Registration will be completed by 6pm on Thursday October 21st 2010.
    * Start time will be 6 a.m. on Friday October 22nd finishing 12.00 noon on Saturday October 23rd.
    * Every vehicle must have a digital camera and a lead to download photos to our computer.
    * Camera must have date and time set.
    * Officials will take one photo to start set of photos
    * Each animal is worth a specific number of points. Officials will record and add up total value.
    * Vehicles are restricted to LUMO Community Wildlife Sanctuary, Maramba ranch, Lualenyi ranch and the
    * Taita hills Sanctuary.
    * Within the 30 hour period all vehicles must bring camera and scorecard to the marshal at the finish.
